About the Artist

Artist Biography

Erica Kendrick is a ceramic artist, sculptor, and educator based in the Raleigh–Durham area of North Carolina. Her work is grounded in storytelling through form—celebrating themes of strength, heritage, and feminine beauty. Drawing from Black cultural traditions and personal memory, she hand-builds intricate floral sculptures, crowns, and hat-inspired vessels that honor resilience and grace.

Erica holds a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art with a concentration in Sculpture from Nazareth College and a K–12 Visual Art Teaching Certificate from Meredith College. Over the past 17 years, she has taught and led arts education across Wake and Durham Public Schools, serving as a department chair, exhibition organizer, and mentor. Her ceramic practice, Fired Petals, blends fine art with cultural homage—paying tribute to Black milliners like Mae Reeves and the legacy of women who adorned themselves in power.

Her work has been exhibited in regional art shows and institutions, including Golden Belt Art Campus, the Durham Public Schools Instructor Show, and Artquake. In 2025, she was featured in About Time Magazine in an article titled “From Starry Night to Rising Star.”

Whether sculpting a single rose or an entire garden of stories, Erica’s work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and recognize the beauty in legacy.
